Duffy’s Circus Week end Protests, June 09

Duffy’s Demo Report 20th and 21st June

How Duffy’s circus views the rights of the non human animals confined in their circus may be indicated from how they view the rights of humans.

Complaints have been made to Whitehall Gardai station about two days of assaults by 2 prominent people within Duffy’s circus upon activists.

Saturday 20th June

The first complaint referred to a man from the circus catching an activist by the neck and saying “If I got you alone, do you know what I’d do to you, I’d take bits out you.”

The man waited till the end of the event, when the activists had packed up and initially came out in a jolly mood before moving over to one activist who was already leaning down and unlocking his bike.

This followed another day of informing the public about non human animals within circuses.

Before the incident a woman believed to be the wife of the man came out from the circus and video taped a large portion of the protest.

Activists also had a video camera for their own safety as this is not the first time circuses have attacked activists and freedom of speech in Ireland.

Circuses are well known for their violence towards both humans and non humans. Activists have ended up in hospital previously. The man waited however till the camcorder was turned off.

Sunday 21st June 2pm

Activists again had to make complaints of assault about 2 members of Duffy’s Circus.

These complaints referred to a woman coming out of the circus with a camcorder and assaulting an activist by deliberately knocking a banner out of her hand before proceeding to try to steal leaflets. She then accused the activists and went into the circus and brought out a man believed to be her husband who assaulted another activist by attempting to take a camcorder from the activists hand. This man then stood over a woman activist

in a threatening manner before doing the same with another activist.

The Gardai were called to the circus and took complaints.

Sunday 21st June 5pm

Bravely activists returned to inform the public about how non human animals are confined within circuses. This passed without any threats or assaults from people within Duffy’s circus.

The customers to the circus were roughly about 70% children. How many of these children know that by their parents or guardians paying for them to be close to the non human animals that they are funding the abuse of the very animals that they are so fascinated and fond of?

Duffy’s circus like all circuses with animals targets and exploits children audiences.

Please see details for the Upcoming Events for next week about Duffy’s Circus.

Please also send a letter to the Arts Council asking they do not give grants to circuses with non humans.
