ALiberation Week of Sunday 04/05/08

On Friday 2nd of May, a protest and info table took place outside the South African Embassy against the lifting of the cull ban on elephants in South Africa.

Office workers passing by stopped at the table to take a leaflet and sign a letter that opposed the lifting of the cull ban.

Most of them were appalled at the situation. Some knew that elephants had already been slaughtered in the past and were worried about their future; others didn’t know the situation and told us that South Africa would never get away with murdering whole

families of elephants.

Unfortunately they have already done it in the past and the fact they have now lifted the cull ban is not a good sign for the future of the elephants.

An information table was held outside of Barnados Furriers, like every Saturday, to bring awareness of the situation on fur farms in Ireland. Most people still don’t know there are fur farms. But they cant be blamed as, strangely, the Irish media rarely highlights the issue. Shameful business? People are still queuing to sign our letters. They want fur farms to be banned! How long will it take the Dpt of Agriculture to listen to the citizens of Ireland?

From 5pm, we stood outside Barnados Furriers to show the disgust of the public towards this shop for disfiguring our city. Most people passing by gave us their full support.

We then headed to Shelbourne Park to hand out leaflets to a rather unaware public who thinks greyhound racing is a nice activity for a Saturday night out. We were very pleased to see other activists had joined us for an hour.
